Malheur County Criminal Court Cases
The Malheur County Circuit Court, part of Oregon's Ninth Judicial District, handles felony cases and other criminal matters within its jurisdiction. Its clerk maintains the docket and filed documents at 251 B Street West, second floor, in Vale. Public hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m., Mountain Time, except legal holidays. The clerk's phone is 541-473-5171.
Ontario Justice Court must be checked separately for lower-court matters. It is at 1178 SW 4th Street in Ontario, can be reached at 541-889-5712 or justicecourt@malheurco.org, and also serves Ontario and Nyssa municipal functions. A city citation does not necessarily create a Malheur County Circuit Court file.

Malheur Court Copy Options
The Malheur case-file copy instructions cover counter and mail requests. A mail request should give the full party name, case number or filing year, exact documents or whole file, electronic or paper preference, certification choice, contact information, a check payable to State of Oregon, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. When cost is not known, the clerk accepts a not-to-exceed check up to $30.
Electronically stored documents cost $3 per case. Paper converted to electronic is $0.20 per page, hard copy is $0.25 per page, certified copy is $5 per document plus page charges, and exemplified copy is $10 per document plus page charges. Certified copies carry the clerk's attestation. Exemplified copies add authentication by the Trial Court Administrator and Presiding Judge and generally take two to three more days.

Certified Malheur Court Records
Choose the copy type based on what the receiving authority actually asks for. A regular image or photocopy may be enough for personal review. A certified copy adds the clerk's attestation. Removing a staple from a paper certified copy invalidates that certification. An exemplified, or three-way, copy adds higher authentication and may be requested outside Oregon.

How a Criminal Case Moves
The court file begins when a charging matter is filed, not merely when an arrest occurs. An arraignment records the plea and addresses release. SAFE Court can place treatment, testing, supervision, and regular court events on a Malheur docket for eligible high-risk, high-need participants. The voluntary adult drug court lasts at least one year. Those docket events remain part of the case path, even though the program differs from an ordinary plea-to-sentence sequence.
Dates on the register of actions describe scheduled or completed court events, not a promise that every future hearing will occur as first listed. Check the current calendar and the docket together. Malheur Hearing Audio Timing
When the written docket does not answer what happened at a hearing, Malheur court offers FTR audio copies. Electronic audio costs $9. A CD costs $10, with $3 mailing when applicable. Processing usually takes seven to ten business days after full payment. Audio is not the same as a transcript, so confirm which product is needed.
A request should identify the case and hearing with enough detail for staff to locate the recording. Restricted hearings may require added authority or a court order. Juvenile audio, for example, can require good cause under the separate access process.
Check Ontario Court Cases Separately
A searcher who finds no Malheur Circuit Court result should not assume that no local court matter exists. Ontario Justice Court keeps lower-court records and performs municipal functions for Ontario and Nyssa. Describe the specific existing record sought, provide a case number when possible, and ask the clerk what public version can be produced. The court is not required to create a new summary merely because the requested facts do not appear in one ready-made document.
